You might be wondering why am I so insistent on introducing meditation to my readers. Well, there’s a story behind that!In my late teens I was a highly active individual, and movement was my life. An Indian Classical dancer, a Reebok certified aerobic and step instructor and active in several sports, I believed absolutely anything was possible. (My philosophy hasn’t changed, although it has been tempered by a dash of reality!)My physical and sporting endeavours were matched emotionally by the mental gymnast in my head, which was extraordinarily active and which in yogic terms is called a Rajasic mind. But as I approached my 20th birthday, something was waiting for me – an autoimmune disorder that affected my muscles. No more dancing and no more jumping around, at least physically. No more movement! But, my mind was still the same Rajasic type, still extremely active. When I started teaching yoga I initially gravitated towards highly movement oriented yoga such as the Vinyasa style, I studied with the best in the field and taught with a passion. However, I still suffered from relapses of the autoimmune disorder on a regular basis, not as severe as the original case, but debilitating nevertheless. Then I was introduced to the yoga of Shri Krishnacharya. I still practised physical postures, but was introduced to an important tool of meditation that required directing my mind towards sustained attention. So those movements of my mind were targeted and directed towards a focus that brought positive qualities. And I quickly realised the crucial importance of yogic tools such as meditation and chanting in healing myself. The acrobat in my mind still twists, turns, jumps and races, but using the tools of meditation allows me to focus and re-centre my self (note, not myself), so that the inner acrobat rests on her trapeze swinging gently in meditative holistic harmony rather than tumbling through the air to the distraction of raucous applause. This helps me to be truly present (refer to my prior newsletter).I haven’t seen the inside of a hospital for my condition in the last 6 years! Because I feel so passionate about meditation and because it is so underrated as a tool that very few people have tried and used it, I am commencing a Meditation Week from Monday 10th Feb to 15th Feb. Online classes will be held on WebEX every day for 20 minutes at 11.00am (GMT). The cost of the week is only £10 for the entire 5 sessions. That’s only £2 a session!!! I worked as a Merchandiser for eight years and I know people take smoking breaks or tea breaks to get away from their desks. This is no different! It’s just a break that realigns your mind and recharges your essential self. So no excuse for office workers! Step into a meeting room (invite your colleagues even), log on to your smart phone and get that break you deserve. If you are a home maker, step into your bedroom or lounge and just spare 20 minutes away from laundry or kids or cooking. I want meditation to be as accessible as possible to everyone so that they can experience the magic and unlock it’s potential of healing and care; just the way I did.Forward this to any of your friends or family who you think might benefit from experiencing this tool.Email me to book these sessions and pay the token amount here
